Government Proposed Electricity Cost Customers Not Follow Up Rich

Jakarta - The government proposed that the customer 6600 Volt Ampere (VA) is no longer subject to increase electricity basic tariff (TDL) by 10 percent starting next July.

According to the Director General of Electricity and Energy Utilization, Ministry of Energy, J Purwono, proposals were submitted because the government will change the electricity tariff schemes for wealthy customers starting July 2010.

Previously, the government set limits on wealthy customers saving for 50% of the average national electricity consumption. This means that wealthy customers will enjoy 50% subsidy from the average national electricity consumption, while the rest charged at the economics of Ro 1380 per Kwh

This scheme would be changed, the government set limits on wealthy customers saving compressed into only 30% of the average national electricity consumption. This means that wealthy customers will enjoy 30% subsidy from the average national electricity consumption.

However Purwono added, the whole mechanism of the increase in TDL will be discussed in more detail with the Commission VII of DPR.

"So it'll still be discussed again by the House of Representatives Commission VII," he asserted.

"VA's 6600 Customer's portion is paid at the rate of electricity economics of USD 1380 per kwh, so it was decided not to be raised. So the problem is not only charged subsisi to rich people," he said.

As is known, in a plenary session of Parliament on this day, it was agreed quantities of electricity subsidy in Budget 2010-P set at Rp 55.1 trillion, down from the initial agreement which amounted to Rp 56.15 trillion.

To cover the difference between Rp 1 trillion, the government will seek additional revenue through the change of electricity tariff mechanism for new electric customers rich, by setting limits save customers 50 percent richer than the average national consumption reduced to only 30% of the average national electricity consumption. This means that wealthy customers will enjoy 30% subsidy from the average national electricity consumption.
