Investment in new machinery textile sector to Rp 6.28 trillion

Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) state investment in new machinery in a restructuring in the sector of textiles and textile products until the end of this year is predicted to reach Rp6, 28 trillion.

Director General of Metal, Machinery, Textile and Multifarious (ILMTA) Kemenperin Ansari Bukhari explains Kemenperin initiated a restructuring program since 2007 till 2009 has triggered a new machine investment worth Rp4, 78 trillion.

"This year we are targeting new investment can grow more textile machinery amounted to Rp1, 5 so that a total of Rp6 trillion, 28 trillion. Since the last three years, aid disbursed Kemenperin reached Rp505, 76 billion. This year, assistance has been allocated around Rp 150 billion, "he said today.

Since 2007, he said, the restructuring aid allocated Kemenperin textile machinery has been used consisting of 460 business 300 textile companies. "There are some companies that use it as much as 2-3 times in a row," he explained.

In addition, he explained, since the first rolled out in 2007, the program was able to create about 42,000 new job opportunities, which may dismiss the assumption of modernization reduce employment opportunities.

"The increase in production also increased by 17% - 28% and energy savings range from 6% - 18% so that more can reduce production cost and more environmentally friendly technology," he explained.

On the other hand, the Minister of Industry M.S. Hidayat said the textile sector is one of the oldest industries in Indonesia. However, judging still have weaknesses that make the mastery of seven products in the domestic market can not compete with products from China.

Some of the weaknesses that are the availability of raw material 99% cotton which is imported, the slow delivery times of goods, electricity and road infrastructure conditions and inadequate ports, as well as bank interest rates are too high, ranging from 14% - 16%.

"And most important, condition of the textile machinery we have almost 80% are aged over 20 years, so using old technology impact on low level of productivity, energy and time consuming. For that, During my time in Kemenperin, the restructuring program will continue my scroll, "he said.
